Child Therapy in Mooresville, NC
Kids don’t need to be “fixed”—they need to feel safe, seen, and supported. At Sound Mind Counseling & Neurotherapy, we help children ages 10–12 navigate big feelings, behavior changes, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, and school stress through developmentally appropriate, evidence-based care. We partner closely with caregivers so progress at home and school becomes easier.
Who We Help
- Anxiety & worry (separation, social, school avoidance)
- Trauma & stressful events (accidents, medical procedures, bullying, loss, family changes)
- ADHD & emotional regulation (impulsivity, frustration tolerance, focus)
- Sadness, low mood, or self-criticism
- Behavior changes (irritability, meltdowns, sleep challenges)
- School stress (peer conflict, perfectionism, test anxiety)
Age policy: We begin seeing children at age 7.

How Child Therapy Works
- Warm intake & parent consult – We learn your child’s story and your goals.
- Personalized plan – We match your child with a clinician and approach that fits their needs.
- Play & skills practice – Sessions use play, drawing, stories, and body-based tools to build regulation.
- Caregiver partnership – Brief parent check-ins and practical strategies for home/school.
- Measure & adjust – We review progress and update goals together.
Approaches We Use (kid-friendly and evidence-based)
- Play & Expressive Therapies – Games, art, and stories to explore feelings and practice coping skills.
- EMDR for Kids – Gentle, structured reprocessing of scary or “stuck” memories at a child’s pace.
- IFS-Informed “Parts” Work – Helping kids notice different “parts” (e.g., Worried Part, Mad Part) without shame.
- ACT Skills – Simple tools for thoughts/feelings, values, and everyday choices.
- Parent Coaching – Co-regulation, routines, and scripts that make follow-through easier at home.
- Neurofeedback (optional): Some families add neurofeedback to support attention, sleep, and self-regulation. Learn more on our Neurofeedback page.
